Standardized Testing


The South Carolina Department of Education, in accordance with ACT 282, developed the Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (P.A.S.S.) test in 2008.The test is administered over two sessions in March and May. Students in grades 3 through 8 take the test. The test covers the areas of writing, English language arts, math, social studies and science. Students in seventh grade take the test in all areas. Eighth graders take the test in writing,English language arts, math, and are randomly selected to take either the science or social studies portion of the test. The test results are used for school,district, state and federal accountability purposes. End of Course Testing

The EAA of 1998 requires the development of end-of-course testing for gateway or benchmark courses. Students in Algebra 1 will take this exam in May, which will count 20% of the final grade for the course.
